Founded in July 2018, Black Girls Crowned founder Nerissa Gilyard became interested in creating opportunities for the Black community, especially Women of Color, to discuss issues that pertained to them in a safe space. She found that in her own life it can be difficult to feel comfortable discussing her cultural norms and life as she knew as a Black Woman in today's society. After a conversation with a friend that felt the same way, God established the vision for Black Girls Crowned. BGC was officially established as a 501c3 Non-profit organization in May 2020.
Black Girls Crowned strives to destroy the stigma behind Mental Health and Treatment in the Black Community. We understand that many of us were taught that "What happens at home, stays at home" and try to continuously create a safe space for us to talk about our childhood, trauma, sexual assault, domestic violence, divorce, Racial discrimination and Intergenerational Trauma.
No matter what you are going through, even if we have never experienced it, we are not here to judge, but to guide you in your own healing. Give yourself permission to take time in this moment. We are designed for YOU! No matter how you identify, socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity and etc. we offer a non-judgmental approach.
